Silk Book Covers

My friend Alice is a writer and poet, among many other things. Many other wonderful things, actually. I love her.
A few months ago, Alice decided to organize her volumes of journals and kept coming across odd poems here and there. She organized these into book form, found out that could be bound into a book at a reasonable price, and decided to have one made for each of her children for Christmas. I told her I would make covers for them in order to personalize them further. I did up the drawing on the right in my trusty Liz Plummer Moleskine notebook.
I then went off in search of fabric. Of course, it had to be my hand-painted silk fabric and had to be a good weight to endure book handling. I used some shantung pieces that were completely colorset and laundered. The cover fits over the books notebook style, with a pocket on each side for the covers to slide into. There is an overlap flap to fasten the books closed with a beautiful button on each one. The button on the blue one is a spectacular glass one, purchased from Designs by Christine (who like Liz Plummer is a fellow Boomer Etsy team member) months before I had any idea what I’d use it for. I’m pleased with the wonderful accent it provides the book cover — serendipity!
And here are the two finished books. Taa daaa!

Wow that cover is wonderful! I know they will be thrilled to have the covers on their special books. What a good friend you are to do this for them.

Love the idea of the book cover, which will preserve something special. Do you have these in your shop. Many years ago, my daughter gave me a little notebook for Christmas with poems she has written – I would love to put them in something special.
