Commemorating Friends and Family
When I was learning PhotoShop, my mother got after me to touch up her wedding photos. I never did get around to it (I’m the quintessential Bad Daughter). Last winter, though, I took a class in photo transfer and got some good results copying my parents wedding photo onto pieces of silk organza. I made a silk painting to stand in for a frame around the photo, and gave my parents the All Time Favorite Gift. It really looks beautiful in their living room, and their friends all oooh and aaah over it.
I’ve made a couple more prototypes which are advertised in my Etsy shop. If you send me a good quality photo or jpg, I can transfer the image to silk and return your photo to you unharmed. You can suggest motifs, using family stories or themes related to your friends’ histories, and I’ll develop a design to use as a backdrop to the photo. I used ginkgo leaves as a motif using a photograph of my grandmother, which would make a terrific 80th birthday present, images of a “family” tree with lilacs for one of my parents’ wedding photos, and a border of leaves for another.
This will make a truly unique gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, or anytime you’d like to celebrate a friendship. Destined to become an heirloom for the recipient!
